Introduction to the Scheme
Most children and families who seek professional help for emotional and behavioural difficulties are first responded to within a primary care setting. Whilst there is undoubtedly much expertise around, there is a widely acknowledged need for psychological approaches and support to be made more available to primary care professionals. The Child and Family Bibliotherapy Scheme aims to respond to that need by:
- Identifying good quality self-help materials focused on promoting the mental health and well being of children and families
- Setting up a scheme that allows professionals to formally recommend those resources to families by writing out a recommendation slip allowing them to borrow the resource from a local library for an agreed length of time
