The Gwent Bibliotherapy Scheme recommends two books for understanding and parenting teenagers.

Adel Faber and Elaine Mazlish's "How to Talk so Teens will Listen and Listen so Teens will Talk" is a book for parents/carers of teenagers, but the principles apply widely. The book touches on various themes for communication including dealing with feelings, discipline, problem solving and sex and drugs.

Margot Waddell's "Understanding 12-14 year olds" is written for parents/carers and provides reassuring and practical advice to help them to understand and communicate with their 12-14 year old children. The book addresses issues such as stealing, bullying, smoking along with other concerns often faced by the parents of young teenagers.
